Shop Small in Elsternwick Village and support your local traders
Throughout November, traders in Elsternwick Village will participate in the Shop Small campaign which aims to help local businesses thrive.
American Express card members who spend $20 or more in one transaction at participating stores in the shopping precinct will get $10 back. Card members who registered to support small businesses are able to redeem the offer once per participating business, at up to five different traders.
Small businesses form the heart of communities across Australia, with more than 2.1 million nationwide.
For every 100 businesses, 97 are considered small. American Express classifies a business as ‘small’ if it has less than 20 employees and a turnover of less than $2 million.
Research conducted by American Express shows that both small businesses and consumers believe that small business are an integral part of the fabric of their communities – 47% of Australians said that small businesses defined their community, and 25% of small business owners said that ‘community feel’ attracted them to the area in the first place.
Furthermore, small businesses are active supporters of their direct communities and the people within it.
The research also shows that 70% of small businesses encourage consumers to support other small businesses, 73% of small businesses provide employment for local residents, and 78% of small businesses donate money, supplies or services to local charities.
