With Rosh Hashanah fast approaching, many of us will be thinking about dishes we can prepare to enjoy at a social gathering.

As apple and honey are traditionally enjoyed during this holiday, this dessert will be the perfect thing to whip up for the occasion.

Not only is this apple dessert in a cup quick and easy to make, the combination of simple ingredients layered together creates a wow factor and will be sure to impress your guests.

This recipe can be made gluten free and dairy free.

Serves 6.

Ingredients

2 apples (preferably Pink Lady)

2 tablespoons of honey

1 orange

100g brown sugar

50g butter/margarine

A packet of desired biscuits (can be gluten free)

150ml cream (dairy free cream or coconut cream works)

5g cinnamon

Method

Whip 100ml of cream with the cinnamon, then place aside.

Dilute 1 tablespoon of honey with 100ml of warm water and place aside.

Peel and dice the apples and place aside.

Place a pan on a medium heat, add brown sugar and stir with a wooden spoon until a caramel forms and the sugar is fully melted.

Turn down the heat and add squeezed juice from the orange, keep stirring, and add 50ml of cream and 1 tablespoon of honey. Remove from heat.

To assemble, dip a biscuit in the honey syrup and place into the bottom of the cup, or crumble the biscuit to preferred texture before adding to the cup. Add a layer of diced apple and pipe a layer of cream. Add caramel sauce over the cream. Repeat the layers until the last cream layer sits at the top of the cup. Drizzle with the remaining caramel for decoration.

Place the dessert in the fridge for two hours prior to serving. Enjoy.
